The State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) recently issued a notice on the supervision of decorative plano colored contact lenses.

According to the notice, the registration application of decorative plano colored contact lenses shall be submitted as Class III medical devices. The production licensing, distribution licensing, quality management system inspection and routine supervision of decorative plano colored contact lenses shall be performed according to relevant standards and provisions for corneal contact lenses. As of April 1, 2012, those without the medical device registration certificate of this kind of products and relevant production and distribution qualification certificates should not produce and distribute such products. Those violating regulations on medical device supervision to produce and distribute such products shall be seriously investigated and punished according to the Regulations for the Supervision and Administration of Medical Devices and relevant laws and regulations.
